BECOME A FIGHTER PILOT IN INDIAN AIR FORCE - FOR GIRLS.
Today I'll share some important information for girls who wish to become a fighter pilot in INDIAN AIR FORCE(IAF). I'm writing this blog because I know some male as well as female aspirants who want to join the IAF but they don't have proper guidance.
Females are mainly selected in the INDIAN AIR FORCE through Short Service Commission or SSC. It means female candidates can serve in the IAF for maximum 14 years only. After the completion of 14 year tenure they need to take retirement from the service.
Mainly, female aspirants can join the IAF through 3 entries, 1.AFCAT ENTRY,
2.FTS ENTRY,
3-NCC SPECIAL ENTRY
Firstly I'll tell you about the AFCAT ENTRY.
AFCAT means Air Force Common Admission Test. It is conducted by Indian Air Force twice a year. The notification for this exam is declared in the months of June and December. Basically, in Indain Air Force there are 2 types of branches.
1st - Flying Branch and
2nd - Ground Duty Branch.
The Ground Duty Branch is further divided into two branches, 1st- Technical Branch, 2nd - Non-Technical
Branch.
Through AFCAT candidates can apply for all this three branches i.e. Flying Branch, Technical Branch, and Non-Technical Branch, but the qualification requirements for all these branches are different.
ELIGIBILITY FOR FLYING BRANCH THROUGH AFCAT.
- Age between 20 to 24 years.
- Relaxation of age upto 26 years for candidates who have commercial pilot license, licensed by DGCA i.e. Directorate General Of Civil Aviation.
- Education qualification - Physics and Mathematics subject in 10+2 and graduation is mandatory.
- Minimum height for Flying Branch - 162.5 cm. Applied for both male and female candidates.
ELIGIBILITY FOR GROUND DUTY BRANCH(TECHNICAL AND NON-TECHNICAL BRANCH) THROUGH AFCAT.
- Age between 20 to 26 years.
- For Technical Branch physics and mathematics in 10+2 with minimum 60% in Engineering degree in any course is mandotary.
- ADMINISTRATION BRANCH
- LOGISTICS BRANCH
- ACCOUNTS BRANCH
- EDUCATION BRANCH. For Administration and Logistics branch you need minimum 60% in any graduate degree. For Accounts branch you need minimum 60% in B.Com in graduate degree. And for Education branch only those candidates are eligible who have Post
Graduate Degree from MBA, MCA, MA, and MSc only, with this they require minimum 60% in their graduation.
If the candidates are in the final year of their graduation or they have completed their graduation can apply for joining Indian Air Force through AFCAT. Through AFCAT both male and female candidates can apply for IAF. They can login to IAF's official website careerairforce.nic.in to apply for AFCAT.
2. FTS ENTRY.
FTS means FAST TRACK SELECTION ENTRY. From the FTS tree entry candidates are selected for METEOROLOGICAL BRANCH. Meteorological branch is a separate branch of IAF which deals with weather analysis. This branched used to get the perfect information of the weather to secure the flights of helicopters and fighter jets of IAF. So this branch also has important role to play in IAF. The notification for this entry is declared on the basis of required vacancies, so the notification for this entry is not fixed.
ELIGIBILITY.
- Age between 20 to 26 years.
- Education- minimum 50% aggregate marks in post graduation of any science course and minimum 55% in graduation with physics and mathematics is mandatory. 3. NCC SPECIAL ENTRY.
As the name itself suggests it is a special entry for NCC cadets only. Females can apply only for Flying Branch through this entry.
ELIGIBILITY.
- Age between 20 to 24 years.
- Education - minimum 60% marks in 10+2 with physics and mathematics and minimum 60% marks in graduation.
- NCC's C certificate of Air Wing Senior Division issued on or after 6th August, 2015.
As it is a special entry, candidates who qualify the eligibility criteria are not required to give written examination as in AFCAT or FTS ENTRY. The candidates who are short-listed are needed to directly give the SSB interview through this entry. NCC candidates can apply for this entry by logging in the official website of IAF.
But remember the main thing that only unmarried male and female candidates are eligible to apply for all these 3 entries.
