     What is NEET?
NEET is a test that a student has to give if he/she wants to become a doctor. NEET stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. NEET, in India is a qualifying entrance exam for admission in medical related courses like MBBS, BDS. The students who clear this examination get admission in these courses.

NEET is conducted by NATIONAL TESTING
AGENCY (NTA). This exam is conducted on two levels i.e. UG (under graduate) and PG (post graduate). In UG level NEET is a qualifying entrance exam for MBBS and BDS courses. While in PG level NEET is a qualifying entrance exam for courses like M.S and M.D.
This examination is conducted for admission in 479 colleges.

What was the need to create NEET?
ANS. Before NEET, there were 90 different examinations in the country  for admission in medical courses, which included 8 to 9 different exams in each states. That was really a big headache for both, the conducting body and appearing candidates. Because of different exams students have to pay for each form, travel for each exam and this was very difficult. Due to this, students who wanted to become a doctor were under very much pressure.
As, to reduce the mental stress of the candidates and their parents and to waste less money on forms their was a need to create a single entrance examination that could be given to become a doctor. Here's where NEET was formed. And this decision was very good because it reduced the mental and financial burden from the candidates and saved their time and effort.

NEET is a single staged exam and it is conducted offline. The duration of this exam is 3 hours, it is in the form of mcq and has negative markings.
