WHY NEW EDUCATION POLICY 2020?

WHAT IS THE REASON OF INTRODUCING NEW EDUCATION POLICY(NEP2020)?

Welcome back after a long time. So, today I'll be explaining you 'why a new education policy has been introduced?' and 'what is it?'

Well, you'll be surprised to know that the education policy of India was not reformed for about 34 years. That's a very long time. And thus, the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a kind of historic revolution in the history of Indian education. But it was necessary for the education policy to be changed, because if we see the education policies of countries like United States of America, England they assure that the students not only understand the theory part but also the practicals. This is a main reason of America and England  being ahead of many countries including India. And to be honest, the education system that we are following is outdated.

What is the need of new education policy ?

Well, by introducing the New Education Policy our government will address 3 main points. And these three points are:

1.Minimal attention towards higher education.

The government wants that at least 50% of students to move towards higher education programs till 2035. Now, in India only about 25% of students enroll themselves into higher education programs rest of them dropout before or between the higher education because of various reasons. Simply, the government wants that about 50% students must complete their UG courses. And students will only be attracted towards the UG(under graduation) if the government gives them some perks, and the NEP 2020 will do so.

2.Reduce rote learning.

In India, rote learning is a very big issue. Because of the fear to fail in theory exam almost every student uses the rote learning method to pass their exams. The colleges also seem to impart theoretical burden on students. This is a main reason many IT or Technical companies lack employees with logical and statistic thinking. The NEP will try to reduce the theoretical burden from the students and introduce them more practical knowledge.

3.No hard separation of streams.

Now students and studies are divided into 3 streams ,mainly science, arts and commerce. Due to this division students cannot choose humanity with physics and chemistry or biology with banking and many more. But in NEP 2020 their will not be such division of subjects. The government with NEP wants students to choose subjects which will make sense in their jobs respectively.

Let's now see the changes on school level done by the government in NEP 2020.

Firstly, a student starts his/her educational life with nursery, junior kg and then senior kg(preparatory school) . After that studies from 1st std to 10th std and gives his 10th std boards. After that he does his 11th and gives 12th standard boards then UG and all....

Now this structure has been divided into a new structure of 5+3+3+4.

So what is 5+3+3+4? It's very simple to understand. The number 5 is the 1st phase of this structure which consists of first 3 years of preparatory school and first 2 years of main school i.e. nursery, junior kg, senior kg, 1st std and 2nd std. In this section students will be focused on teaching language and enhance the students to acquire knowledge through the language.

The number 3 is the second phase of this structure which consists of class from 3rd to 5th standard. In this phase students are taught the basics of mathematics and other subjects that will lay the foundation of further class education.

The another 3 is the 3rd phase of this structure and believe me it will blow your mind that you'll crave for this education when you were in the 6th standard. So this phase consists of the next three classes that are 6th, 7th and 8th standard. This is the phase that will completely change the life of students as they will be able to choose what their interest lies in. They will be taught every necessary subject let it be botony, zoology, science, mathematics, economics and more. This phase is necessary for students to know in which particular field they have their interest and choose it wisely. Vocational courses are introduced which will give them practical knowledge so they can do internship while they are in 6th standard. This is really amazing.

Students will also learn coding from the 6th standard itself, isn't that interesting? This is something very new and interesting because till now coding was only taught to students in their bachelors who wanted to become computer engineer, programmer, web developer, web designer. Coding is something that develops the logical and statistical thinking of the student. Due to this Student's brain will start growing rapidly in this small age.

The last but not the least, phase 4. In this phase students will be allowed to choose subjects that they would like to study. And the most surprising and interesting thing is that students can choose academic subjects and co-curricular subjects together. Let me explain it with an example. I can choose and learn subjects like botany, dancing, accountancy, debating and history altogether. I can sum up any subjects of science, commerce, arts along with co-curricular activities as a subject and make a totally different structure for myself. And this is applicable for every student that enters in 9th standard.

After the 12th standard also there are some reforms in the Under Graduation(UG). The student can leave his/her study in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of UG and he/she will get their passing certificate. It means if a student wants to leave his study after doing 1st year he will get the course certificate. If he leaves in 2nd year then he will get a diploma. And if he leaves in 3rd or the final year he will be getting his degree. In case student has to leave the course in between due to some reason and come back in a year, he can continue his studies where he had left.
